1. Introduction

Link

This Cookie Policy explains how In Your Hand, Inc. (“In Your Hand,” “we,” “us”) uses cookies and similar tracking technologies on its website and platform.

By accessing or using our services, you consent to the use of cookies as described in this Policy, except where consent is legally required and obtained via a cookie banner.

2. What Are Cookies?

Link

Cookies are small text files placed on your device by websites you visit. They serve various purposes, including:

  • Maintaining platform functionality
  • Securing user sessions
  • Detecting fraud and suspicious activity
  • Remembering preferences
  • Measuring usage and performance

Cookies may be:

  • First-party (set by In Your Hand)
  • Third-party (set by service providers)
  • Session cookies (expire when you close your browser)
  • Persistent cookies (remain until expiration or manual deletion)

3. Types of Cookies We Use

Link

In Your Hand uses five categories of cookies. We do not use cookies for behavioral profiling or personalized advertising. Where consent is required and granted, we may use Google Ads conversion measurement cookies to understand whether ads lead to completed donations.

3.1 Strictly Necessary Cookies

These cookies are essential for the platform to function. They enable:

  • Login and account management
  • Security verification
  • Fraud prevention
  • Donation processing
  • Load balancing and performance stability
These cookies cannot be disabled through cookie settings.

Examples:

  • Session authentication tokens
  • CSRF protection cookies
  • Payment processing session IDs
  • Infrastructure failover cookies

Legal basis: Legitimate interest (platform security) + Contractual necessity.

3.2 Functional Cookies

These cookies enhance usability but are not strictly required. They support:

  • User preferences (language, region)
  • Accessibility tools
  • Saved login preferences (where allowed)
  • Interface customization

Disabling them may reduce convenience but will not block access.

Legal basis: User consent (GDPR).

3.3 Analytics & Performance Cookies

These cookies help understand how the platform is used, solely to improve functionality and user experience. We track:

  • Page performance
  • User journey flow
  • Error logs
  • Device/browser patterns
  • Geographic regions (non-identifying)

We do not use analytics to build behavioral advertising profiles.

Examples:

  • Google Analytics (IP anonymized)
  • Internal performance metrics

Legal basis: User consent (GDPR).

3.4 Security & Fraud-Detection Cookies

To protect donors, project owners, and financial transactions, we use cookies that:

  • Identify suspicious behavior
  • Detect bots
  • Protect accounts from unauthorized access
  • Prevent fraudulent donations or chargebacks

These may include:

  • Device fingerprinting tokens
  • Browser integrity checks
  • Rate-limiting cookies

Legal basis: Legitimate interest in preventing fraud (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)) + Legal obligation (AML/CFT requirements).

3.5 Advertising Measurement Cookies

We may use Google Ads conversion tracking to measure whether an advertisement leads to a completed donation. These cookies and tags help attribute conversions, measure campaign performance, and reduce duplicate conversion counts.

  • Google Ads conversion measurement
  • Ad click attribution for completed donation events
  • Duplicate conversion prevention using transaction identifiers

We disable personalized advertising signals and do not use this setup for behavioral targeting or remarketing.

Legal basis: User consent where required by applicable law.

4. Cookies We Do NOT Use

Link

In Your Hand explicitly does not use:

  • Personalized advertising or remarketing cookies
  • Behavioral targeting cookies
  • Cookies sold or shared with advertisers

This ensures donor and beneficiary protection, confidentiality, and trust.

5. Third-Party Cookies

Link

Some third-party providers may place cookies for operational or security purposes. These include:

  • Payment processors (Stripe, PayPal) — Used for secure donation sessions.
  • Identity verification providers (Onfido, Veriff, etc.) — Used during KYC/KYB checks.
  • Cloud hosting & performance services — Load balancers, content delivery networks (CDNs).
  • Analytics providers — Google Analytics (GDPR-compliant settings enabled).
  • Advertising measurement providers — Google Ads conversion tracking for completed donation measurement.

All third-party vendors are contractually required to:

  • Protect User data
  • Use cookies only for service delivery
  • Not sell or misuse personal data

6. Managing Cookie Preferences

Link

Users may manage or disable cookies using:

  • The cookie banner (for consent-based cookies)
  • Browser settings
  • Device controls
  • Opt-out options on analytics and advertising measurement providers

However:

  • Disabling Strictly Necessary Cookies will prevent the platform from functioning properly.
  • Disabling Security Cookies may limit account access or trigger additional verification steps.

7. Do Not Track (DNT) Signals

Link

The platform currently does not respond to Do-Not-Track signals because:

  • No unified standard exists
  • DNT does not align with mandatory AML/security requirements

However, Users may still disable cookies manually.

8. Data Retention for Cookies

Link

Typical cookie lifespan:

  • Session cookies: deleted when browser closes
  • Persistent cookies: 1–24 months depending on purpose
